Description	:	Funeral services for Martin Eidem, life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of rural Elk Point, were held in Minneapolis at the Enga Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Saturday Sept. 30, 1972. Rev. E.O. Urness officiated at the St. Paul service. Mr. Eidem, age 85, was born in a pioneer’s cave near Elk Point, on Jan. 23, 1887, and was confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1900. Rev. E.O. Urness officiated at the St. Paul service. Mr. Eidem, age 85, was born in a pioneer’s cave near Elk Point, on Jan. 23, 1887, and was confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1900. At the age of three he moved to the Union County farm where he lived most of his life. For 52 years he supervised a steam threshing company and he continued to do farm work until he reached the age of 77. For the last eight years he lived in Minneapolis with his niece and her family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Barnhart and their daughter, Connie. He was interested in and enjoyed life. In Minneapolis he attended Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church. He loved little children and they loved him and to his relatives he was “Grandpa.” After hospitalization in August for congestive heart failure, he was recovering at home when he suffered another heart attack on September 27. Survivors are one brother, Joe Eidem of Pioneer Home at Viborg, his niece, Mrs. Margaret Eidem Barnhart and her daughter, Miss Connie Barnhart, of Minneapolis, and four other nieces: Mrs. Blanche Eidem Ashmore, of Sioux City, Mrs. Francis Eidem Goergen, of Sioux City, Mrs. Lorraine Callahan, of Elk Point, and Mrs. Ethel Eidem Benjamin, of Pismo Beach, California; and five nephew: Mr. Joe Eidem, Jr. of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Mr. Orline Eidem, of Hurley, Mr. Maylin Eidem, of Wayzata, Minnesota, Mr. Palmer Erickson, of Calif. And Mr. Merle Erickson of Nipome, Calif. Pallbearers were, Elmer Quam, Martin Albin, Norrel Quam, Clarence Hanson, Benny Quam and Alfred Hanson.
