Baker, 83, a resident of Atchison County nearly all his life, died at 8:15 o'clock this mornig at the home of his son, John Baker, Route 2. Funeral services will be conducting Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Benedict's Church and burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery. The rosary will be recited Monday evening at 8 o'clock at the Harouff-Buis funeral home. Born May 18, 1863, in Missouri, Mr. Baker moved to Atchison County with his parents when a small child. He was united in marriage to Alice Carrigan of Doniphan County in 1890 Mr. and Mrs. Baker operated a farm north of Atchison many years, and farmed near Beloit for nine years. They left the farm north of town and moved to Atchison in 1919. He was custodian of the old St. Louis college grade school for many years. Mrs. Baker died in July of 1937. Surviving are nine children, H.M. Baker, Atchison; Mrs. Sam Hardwick, Herrin, Illinois; Charles L. Baker, Elkhart, Indiana; Mrs. Joe McGrath, Washington D.C., Martin J. Baker III, Elkhart, Indiana; John G. Baker and Frank J. Baker, Atchison; Sister Imogen Baker of Mount St. Scholastica, and Raymond W. Baker, Lincoln, Nebraska. Also surviving are three sisters; Mrs. Julia McCarthy, Mrs. Tom Mullins and Mrs. Pete Wolters, all of Atchison; 31 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Mary Seeger, died in February of 1921 during a flu epidemic.
