Hudek and George Kopriva. Martin Poduska was born Nov. 21, 1852 in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia. He was the son of Frank and Anna Poduska. He came to America when he was 19 years of age, locating at Chelsea, Ia. On Feb. 4, 1876 he united in marriage with Rosa Hronek at Chelsea. A month later they came to Pocahontas county and established their home on the farm now occupied by the Pocahontas Dairy southeast of Pocahontas. Twelve years later they purchased the farm now occupied by their son Benjamin in Roosevelt township. They resided there until 1917 at which time they retired from farming and moved to Pocahontas. Mr. Poduska was among the sturdy early day pioneers of this community. He was among the first members of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic church and has always been one of its staunch supporters. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and four sons. The daughters are Mrs. W. W. Howard of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. J. J. Kopriva of this place. The sons are J. V., Ben., C. W. and A. W. Poduska of this vicinity. One son, Frank and a daughter, Amelia preceded him in death. Also surviving are two brothers, Joseph of Marshalltown and Benjamin of Chelsea, besides eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Transcribed by Teresa Davis
