Description	:	Peoria man dies in tractor mishap Martin Vos, rural Peoria, was killed Monday morning when the tractor he was driving overturned on him. Vos, 59, was reportedly pulling a car out of a ditch near his farm when the tractor went over the edge of an embankment and pinned him underneath, according to the Mahaska Co. Sheriffs Dept. (From the Pella Chronicle December 7, 1977) ************************************ MARTIN VOS Funeral services for Martin Vos were held Dec. 8, 1977 at the Peoria Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Peter Van Drunen and Fred Van Houten officiating. Mr. Vos, 59, rural Pella, died in a tractor accident on his farm Dec. 5, 1977. Organist at the funeral was Mrs. Kenneth Fynaardt. Ushers were Pete Jochem, Dale De Young and Everett Hol. Flower attendants were Mrs. Jacob Van Gorp, Mrs. Gilbert Vander Hart and Mrs. Richard Van Kooten. Casket bearers were Jacob Van Gorp, Cornie Vander Linden, Gilbert Vander Hart, Chester Terpstra, Gerrit Bokhoven and Lester Van Wyk. Burial was at the Peoria Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the honorary guard of the American Legion VanVeen-Van Hemert Post No.89. The Garden Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Martin was born July 15, 1918 to Adrian and Sarah Vander Molen Vos near Taintor. He was married with Tillie Irene Van Maanen on Dec. 5, 1945 at Leighton. Mr. Vos was a veteran of World War II and was a lifetime resident of the Peoria area where he was engaged in farming. He had also been employed as a substitute mail carrier in Pella for many years. He is survived by three brothers, Peter G. Vos of Pella, Ben A. Vos of New Sharon, and Cornie A. Vos, Oskaloosa; two sisters, Margaret (Mrs. Louis) Van Haaften and Anna (Mrs. Cornelius) Roose, both of Pella; his widow; four children, Adrian G. Vos and Corrine (Mrs. Jerry) Verschuure, both of Pella, and Milton W. Vos of Sheldon and Twila M. Vos, who is at home; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Mr. Vos was a member of the Peoria Christian Reformed Church. Memorials have been designated for the Christian Opportunity Center. (From the Pella Chronicle December 14, 1977)
