Description	:	Grandpa died when I was ten years old. I never got to know him that well, but he did hug me a couple of times. I remember the day he died. Martin Werts was a skilled carpenter and farmer who worked very hard his whole life, even when stomach cancer was killing him. On February 11, 1931 he married Mildred Thomazin. Martin and Mildred farmed north of ST. Edward, Nebraska, until the summer of 1937, when they moved to Nampa, Idaho. They returned to Nebraska in 1942 and farmed southeast of St. Edward. Martin Werts was a skilled carpenter and farmer who worked very hard his whole life, even when stomach cancer was killing him. On February 11, 1931 he married Mildred Thomazin. Martin and Mildred farmed north of ST. Edward, Nebraska, until the summer of 1937, when they moved to Nampa, Idaho. They returned to Nebraska in 1942 and farmed southeast of St. Edward. They moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1943, and returned to Nebraska in 1947. They farmed west of town until the summer of 1963 when they moved to Nampa, again. Martin and Mildred moved to Homedale, Idaho, in 1970. After Martin's death in 1980, Mildred returned to St. Edward. Martin retired from farming in 1963. He raised six children with his wife and was a stern disciplinarian, inculcating a very strong work ethic in his children. He worked from sun up to sun down. When he finished his carpentry tasks, he'd come home and work late into the night on his farm. He was a devout Catholic who said his rosary with Grandma every night. He used his skills to build a church. At his funeral, the priest said that he had no doubts that Grandpa went to heaven.
