Werts, 86, retired farmer, were held Monday January 21, at 10 a.m. at the St. Edward Catholic Church with the Rev. James Brady officiating. Mr. Werts passed away at the St. Mary Hospital in Columbus on January 17th, having been a patient there for six days. He had been a resident of this community for 46 years, living for the past thirteen in town. Rosary was prayed at 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Miller Funeral Home where the body lay in state. Werts was born September 23, 1870 at LaSalle, Illinois, the son of Daniel and Margaret Quinn Werts. He married Ellen Lyons at LaSalle on September 3, 1895. Surviving are three sons: Francis, Martin and Charles of St. Edward; three daughters, Mrs. Martin (Marguerite) Mahoney of St. Edward, Mrs. Joe (Florence) Gruber of Pacoima, California, and Mrs. John (Helen) Good of Valley; one brother, Frank, of LaSalle, Illinois; and twenty-three grandchildren. His wife; son, Harry, and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
