Klein, 85, of Fairfield, died Saturday March 15, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The funeral will be held Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Klein was born July 29, 1917, in Pella, the son of Tunis and Tonie Brands (sic. Brand) Klein. He married Luanna “Stubby” Barnes Sept. 12, 1942. Mr. Klein lived most of his life in the Fairfield community. He was a staff sergeant in the United States Army Signal Corps, serving in World War II. He was employed as a surveying engineer with the Department of Transportation for 36 years. After his retirement, he worked at Oakwood Nursery. Mr. Klein was a mentor for a number of Neighborhood children during his life. He also was a member of First United Methodist Church, VFW Post 2271, a 50 year member of Elks Lodge No. 1192, served for 29 years on the Jefferson County Credit Union board, involved with Fairfield Little League and a long-time supporter of Fairfield Athletic Boosters. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Judy K. Huling and husband Dave; one son Terry M. Klein; one grandson; two great-granddaughters; and one brother, Everett Klein. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Wanders and Jane Weiner (sic. a/k/a Winegar); and two brothers, Gilbert Klein and John Ed Klein.
