Nordyke died at her hone on East Sixth street in this city Monday morning at seven o’clock after an illness of two months. The cause of her death was a complication of diseases with which she had been seriously ill for a week or more. Mary Ann Carey was born in Highland County, Ohio, on June 18, 1844 and was seventy years, three months and twenty-four days of age at the time of death. She was reared in Highland County and on July 1, 1863, she was married to S. B. Nordyke at Columbus, Ohio, after the latter had served several months in the Civil War, so that Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Nordyke were married fifty-one years ago. To them eleven children were born, six sons and five daughters. One son, Harley, died in infancy, but the others survive. They are: H. H. and Elias of Villisca; Walter and Charles of Wood Mountain, Sask., and Fred of Cabri, Sask., Canada; Mrs. Minnie Burrows of Hugoton, Kansas, Mrs. Bertha French and Mrs. Laura Scott of Gelena, Kansas, and Mrs. Josie Hill and Miss Alta Nordyke of Villisca. Mr. Nordyke also survives his wife. She also leaves five brothers, Samuel Carey of Kiowa, Kansas; Dan Carey of Hebron, Nebraska; Jonathan Carey of Macon City, Missouri; Silas Carey of Monterey, Minnesota, and John Carey of Lincoln. A sister, Mrs. Rachel Day and a cousin, A. B. Cadwallader, of Villisca, also survive the deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Nordyke came to Villisca, twelve years ago from Galena, Kansas, where they had resided for twelve years. They have become extremely well known here and Mrs. Nordyke’s death is felt by all Villisca. She and Mr. Nordyke were members of the Quaker faith and had reared their children in this faith. She was a prominent member of the John A. Logan circle of this city. No definite arrangements for the funeral services have been made, the date depending upon the arrival of sons from Canada. All of the children with the exception of these sons are present and the services will probably be held at the home, conducted by Rev. E. S. Menoher of the Methodist Church.
