(1881), Mary Alice, Pearl, and Gertrude. Jan 16, 1939 - Carroll Daily Herald - Mrs. B.H. Drees, well-known pioneer resident of Carroll, died of bronchial terminal pneumonia at the St. Anthony Hospital about 5:30 Sunday morning. Mrs. Drees, who had been in failing health for some time, was stricken with pneumonia Saturday Jan 7. She was removed to the St Anthony hospital the following Tuesday afternoon. Her daughters: Mrs C.L. Glarum of Minneapolis and Mrs George Korte of Seattle, WA and her only surviving sister: Mrs W.L. Babbitt of Niles, MI were with her during most of her serious illness. The body is at the Huffman Funeral Home, where it will rest until the time of the services. Rites will be held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at St. Joseph's Church, with the Very Rev. P.T. Lynch reading the requiem mass. Burial will be in the family lot in the city cemetery between her husband and son, Lieut. Frank Drees. Mrs. Drees, who had lived in Carroll since about the year 1878, was an Easterner, having been born Mary Ann Dolan at Portland, Me. She married B.H. Drees in Grand Cathedral in Portland. Mr and Mrs Dress had attended the same school in Portland and had taken music lessons from the same teacher. Mrs. Drees continued her music after she came to Carroll. Frequently taking part in public entertainments as well as singing in the church choir. Following their marriage, Mr and Mrs Drees made their home for awhile in Portland, later going to Dubuque and subsequently to Carroll. Mrs Drees was the mother of (illigible) children, two of whom preceded her in death: Lt Frank Drees who died May 20, 1911, and Mrs Anthony James (Pearl) who died July 13, 1935, and Mr Drees who passed away Sept 9, 1930. Survivors include her two daughters above named Alice of Minneapolis and Gertrude of Washington, also her sister (the rest is illegible). Jan 18, 1939 - Carroll Daily Herald - Mrs. B.H. Drees, who passed away early Sunday morning was buried in the family lot in the city cemetery Wednesday morning, following services at St Joseph's church. Pallbearers were J.J. Witte, Frank Beiter, Clayton Strohm, D.W. Hanssen, H.W. Gnam, and George Werdel. Mrs. Drees, who was one of Carroll's long time residents, was born of a prominent family of Maine. She was graduated from the French Nun's academy in her native state. Her marriage by Bishop Bacon in the Grand Cathedral at Portland, ME. to B.H. Drees was one of the most noted wedding of that time.
