Description	:	Mary Ann Schirck was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on 2 February 1840. She was the oldest daughter of Frank Joseph Schirck and Mary Ann Monk. While still a young girl, Mary Ann moved with her parents to a farm in Carroll County in eastern Ohio. At the age of 16, she was married to Salomon Frank Reiling. The ceremony took place on 14 October 1856 in the little town of Lodi, now called Malvern, in Carroll County, Ohio. There four children were born to them: Joseph Valentine: Born 14 February 1858 Baptized 28 February William Henry: Born 13 July 1859 Baptized 2 August in Lodi Mary Caroline: Born 9 February 1861 Baptized 3 March in Lodi Frank Albert: Born 2 June 1862 Baptized 22 June in Magnolia Mary Caroline died at only three months of age. Her's was but the first of several deaths in the Reiling family. Salomon himself died in 1864 during the Civil War, not from wounds received, but from a disease caught while closing the coffin of a soldier sent home for burial. His wife, Mary Ann, seems to have moved to Holmes County, Ohio, soon after his death. She died there on 10 February 1865, and was buried in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic cemetery in the town of Glenmont, Ohio. Her three surviving sons were adopted by her parents, Frank and Mary Ann Schirck, and moved to Iowa in 1870.
