Sterling, Crisfield, passed away quietly at her home on Chesapeake Avenue ext., Saturday morning, March 29th at the age of 65. Born January 29, 1882, she was the daughter of the late Algie S. and Margaret S. Sterling, both lifelong residents a Crisfield. Though she had been in failing health for several months, her condition had been recently reported as improved and her passing came as a shock to her family and the community at large. A woman of many fine characteristics, Mrs. Sterling was beloved and held in high esteem by all. Warmhearted and generous, Mrs. Sterling's first thought was for the welfare of others, always willing to do a good deed to help some less fortunate person. She was truly a person with the Christian spirit and love for all mankind. Noted far and wide for her culinary accomplishments, she was especially known for her creation of pies and candy specialties. She was a member of Asbury Methodist Church where, as long as health permitted, her attendance was one of the joys of her life. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2.00 o'clock from her late home, conducted jointly by Rev. H. O. Hufnal and Rev. J. T. Rowlenson, amidst a solid bank of beautiful floral tributes which covered the four walls of the room in which she reposed. Interment was in Asbury Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Benjamin F. Sterling; one son, Clyde, of Baltimore; two daughters, Miss Emma Sterling and Mrs. Clarence (Ruth) Bethard, Crisfield. Also surviving are two brothers, Algie and Jerome Sterling, Crisfield; two sisters, Mrs. Hettie E. Nelson and Mrs. Sallie M. Byrd, Crisfield, and one grandchild. Pallbearers were Messrs. Harwood Sterling, Dewey Landon, Warren Byrd, Lora Johnson Jr., Gordon Sterling, Charles Laird, Clarence Christy and Bert Mason. The Crisfield Times, Crisfield, Maryland, Friday, April 4, 1947, p. 1
