Well Known Citizen Victim of The Grim Reaper Mr. Thomas Oliver Sterling died early Wednesday morning at the home of his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hance N. Ward, near Marion, of cancer of the stomach, aged 28 years. Mr. Sterling had been in failing health for more than two years and about 18 months ago, went to the University Hospital, Baltimore, and underwent an operation. From this he never fully recovered, and about six months ago, he returned to the hospital, but was told by the physician that another operation would be of no avail and that he could only expect to live for a few months longer. He returned to his home and for a while he held out hopes that he would recover notwithstanding what had been told him at the hospital. Throughout his entire sickness, he was a great sufferer, but was patient and submissive and calmly awaited the summons which would take his soul to the eternal regions above and relieve his body of all further pain. He was young in years and had much to live for yet when he realized that he must die he expressed himself as willing and ready to go at his master's call. He died in the triumph of his faith which never failed him, and has gone home to join the innumerable throng where there shall be no more pain nor suffering, sorrow nor death. He leaves a widow and two children, besides an aged father and mother, three brothers and three sisters and a host of friends to mourn his death. Funeral services were conducted yesterday morning at Asbury M. E. Church, Lawsonia, of which he was a member, by the pastor, Rev. Dr. T. A. H. O'Brien, assisted by Rev. F. D. Reynolds. The Junior Order United American Mechanics of which he was a member, attended the funeral in a body.
