MARY SCHMITT HEEDS SUMMONS OF THE MASTER PROMINENT MEMBER OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND ITS ORGANIZATIONS Mrs. Mary Schmitt passed away at her home in Ulysses, on Sunday afternoon at three o'clock, aged 62 years, 4 months and 11 days. She leaves to mourn her going, two sons Charles and Edward of Ulysses, also one sister, Mrs. Jerry Gray of Ulysses, two brothers, Joseph and Edward Morrison, of Petaluna, California, together with other relatives and a wide circle of friends. Her husband, O. J. Schmitt, preceeded her twelve years ago. Mary Morrison was born in Willinantic, Connecticut, September 25, 1865 and when quite young came with her parents to Seward County Nebraska. On December 29, 1891, she was married to Mr. O. J. Schmitt at St. Vincent church at Seward, the Rev. Father Kelly officiating. Soon after marriage they came to Ulysses where they have lived throughout the years. Mrs. Schmitt had enjoyed good health always until about one year ago she became ill but kept going hoping her condition would improve. Her sons spared neither time nor expense towards her restoration. Everything possible was done to alleviate her condition but she gradually failed until two months ago when she became bedfast, requiring the attention of a nurse. The end came peacefully and quietly, Sunday afternoon, February 6, 1927. Her ailment was pronounced spinal trouble. Mrs. Schmitt was ever a devoted wife and loving mother and following death of her husband lavished all of her love and devotion upon her sons, who received pious upbringing, wise council and deep interest in their plans for the future. Deceased was a loving sister, staunch friend and good neighbor. A devoted and loyal Catholic, her presence will be missed more than words can express. No work was too arduous for her to attempt in helping out and fostering the many plans made from time to time, when they pertained to the good and success of the various church projects contemplated. She was always found at the post of duty. She was a member of the Altar Society and the Ulysses Court C. D. of A. She was also a Royal Neighbor. A good woman has gone from our midst and the bereaved relatives have the condolence of hosts of friends here and in Seward county, in their sorrow. The seating capacity of the Catholic church was taxed on Tuesday morning when her funeral was held at ten o'clock. A solemn Requiem High Mass was celebrated for the repose of her soul. The following named priests were in the sanctuary Rev. Father Loughnot of Seward, Rev. Father O'Sullivan of Center and Rev. Father Loughran, her pastor, being the celebrant who gave the sermon. The Royal Neighbors attended in a body. The various places of business attested their respect by closing their doors from ten to eleven o'clock. The C. D. of A. also attended in a body. Interment was made by the side of her husband in St. Mary's cemetery near town when the book of her life was closed. "Eternal Rest grant unto her, O Lord, and may Light Perpetual shine upon her. - E.
