Mary Eliza Harris was born April 21, 1878, near Bladensburg in Wapello county, the daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth Wertz Fisher. She was reared and educated in Wapello county and attended the Nora Springs seminary. She was united in marriage on Aug. 24, 1898, at the home of her parents, to Charlie Harris. They operated a tourist park in Batavia for a number of years before they moved to Fairfield 14 years ago. Harris preceded his wife in death on April 9, 1948. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Bladensburg Christian church. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Harlan Anderson, Fairfield; Carl, Wickliffe, Ohio; Mrs. Francis Cundy, Roswell, N.M.; Ross, Parksville, Mo.; Mrs. M. M. Hitchcock, Hagermany, N.M.; Ernest B., Klickatat, Wash.; and Millard D., Branson, Mo.; and Mary L. Harris, Washington, D.C. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Sadie Von Votenberg (sic. Sarah E Fisher Van Voltenburg), Fairfield; 15 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, one son and one sister.
