Description	:	Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Elizabeth Vandeveer, who passed away at her home Saturday, Oct. 23, after a long illness. The Rev. Clark Harshfield, Yankton, assisted by the Rev. Arthur Siewert, Yankton, were in charge of the rites at the Congregational-Baptist church. The text was taken from the fourteenth chapter of John. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers were R. L. Rice, Clad Britt, P.J. Wegner, Jim Nielsen, Chas. Iauch and Clyde Green. Read More	Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Elizabeth Vandeveer, who passed away at her home Saturday, Oct. 23, after a long illness. The Rev. Clark Harshfield, Yankton, assisted by the Rev. Arthur Siewert, Yankton, were in charge of the rites at the Congregational-Baptist church. The text was taken from the fourteenth chapter of John. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers were R. L. Rice, Clad Britt, P.J. Wegner, Jim Nielsen, Chas. Iauch and Clyde Green. The same men were pallbearers at the funeral of Mr. Van Deveer six years ago. Music was furnished by a quartet, who sang "Lead Kindly Light", "Beyond the Sunset" and "Jesus, Savior Pilot me". Mrs. Van Deveer had selected the songs and the text prior to her death. Mary Elizabeth Van Kirk was born Oct. 25, 1863 in Sherburn, Ky. She was the daughter of James and Martha Van Kirk. She moved from Kentucky to Illinois when a child of 14 and grew to young womanhood there. She was united in marriage with William A. Van Deveer on Dec. 27, 1883. To this union three children were born, Ella Mae, who passed away Sept. 7, 1947, Delilah Marjorie, who died in infancy and Dent A. of Creighton. In 1886 the family moved from Youngstown, Ill. to Stella, Nebr., where they resided until 1909, when they moved to a farm south of Creighton. Later they retired and moved to Creighton in 1925, where they continued to make their home. In 1933 the Van Deveers celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Mr. Van Deveer preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1942. Mrs. Van Deveer became a Christian at the age of 10 and was baptized in the river Jordan in Kentucky. She was an active church worker all her life. She had been in failing health the past two years and death ended a long period of suffering. Death came two days before her 85th birthday. Surviving are one son, Dent A. Van Deveer of Creighton; four grandchildren, Melba Loney of Stella, Lawrence Winfrey of Minneapolis, Minn., Margery Otradovsky of Creighton and Betty Radosti of New Orleans, La.; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, E.P. Van Kirk of Brunswick and James W. Van Kirk of Plainview besides many nieces and nephews. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Loney and family of Stella, Lawrence Winfrey, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Jos. W. Van Kirk and Mr. and Mrs. James A. Van Kirk, Plainview; E.P. Van Kirk, Brunswick; Virgil Van Kirk, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Van Kirk, Neligh; Mrs. Art Darrow, Russel Van Kirk, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Van Kirk, Omaha. Extracted from: The Creighton News 28 Oct 1948 Visits Old Home After Twenty-seven Years Absence Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Van Deveer returned Friday from a three weeks visit in their home state of Illinois. They surely visited in a truly visiting way and we can't blame them after an absence of twenty-seven years. This is how they tell it. "At Roseville we visited a sister and many cousins and also many cousins in the vicinity of Swan Creek and Youngstown. At Bushnell we visited three aunts, including an aunt and cousin from Holton, Kansas. At Greenbush we visited his sister and several cousins and here also met a sister and nephew from Emporia, Kansas. At Galesburg we visited another sister and some nieces. At Smithshire we enjoyed a visit with folks, who were old neighbors of ours, when we first settled in Richardson county, Nebr. Here we also met cousins from Farragut, Iowa. During our trip, we met and visited with eighty-one relatives, besides many friends and acquaintances, whom we had not seen for thirty years. This trip was the most enjoyable one we have ever taken."
