Mary Elizabeth Cline was born September 25, 1840, near Rome, Henry County, Iowa, and came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cline to Kansas, in the spring of 1855, settling at Locust Grove near where she died, and which was a station and post office on the old stage... Blodgett, died at the home of her son, Frank, west of Potter at 5 o'clock last Friday [Feb. 19] morning this community lost one of its venerable pioneer women. Mary Elizabeth Cline was born September 25, 1840, near Rome, Henry County, Iowa, and came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cline to Kansas, in the spring of 1855, settling at Locust Grove near where she died, and which was a station and post office on the old stage line. They made the trip from Iowa with ox team, crossing the Missouri River on the ferry at Kickapoo. Henry Cline was appointed postmaster at Locust Grove in 1862, and held the position until his death. His son, T. L. Cline, is now living on the old homestead. On March 17, 1857, Mary E. Cline was married to George M. Blodgett, and moved to the farm on which she died. To this union were born 10 children of whom six are living, as follows; Mrs. L. B. Lollar and Frank and Luther Blodgett of this vicinity, Mrs. Alexander Norris and Fred Blodgett of Topeka, and Mrs. Lee Ellerman of Nortonville. Mrs. Blodgett was a woman of many good qualities and will be greatly missed in the community where she had lived so long. The funeral occurred Saturday [Feb. 20] afternoon and was largely attended. Interment was in Locust Grove cemetery.
