Description	:	Mary Elizabeth Cason, 98, formerly of 424 E. Rochester St., where she had lived since 1952, died at 4:58 p.m. March 26, 2009, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. She was born June 7, 1910, in Ottumwa to Charles and Anna Riley Harter. She married Tom M. Cason Sr. May 30, 1931. He preceded her in death Oct. 6, 1986. Shortly after graduation, she worked in home health care but spent most of her life as a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation, Altar and Rosary Society, Ottumwa Women's Club and was the recipient of many ribbons at plant and garden shows. She was a member of Y.W.C.A. and worked on the Wapello County Election Board into her 90s. She loved to shop and take Amtrak to Chicago on shopping trips. She and her husband loved to take fishing trips to the Ozarks, retirement vacation trips to Texas and enjoyed attending her families' cattle shows. She loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and always looked forward to listening to the KLEE auctions. Next to her faith, her greatest joys came from her family. Surviving is a son, Tom C. Cason Jr. of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren, Shelia (Jack) Guiter of Ottumwa, Stephen Cason of Sigourney, DeWayne (Debra) Cason of Drakesville, Denny (Janet) Cason of Albia, Kevin Cason of Des Moines, Clint (Kathy) Cason of Ottumwa and Casey (Mary) Cason of West Des Moines; 15 great-grandchildren, Kristin, Kelly and Kody Guiter, Amy (Joe) Young, Shane, Chad, Jamie, Colton, Landon, Megan, McKenzie, Elizabeth, Madeline, Kyle and Allison Cason; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Josh and Ashley; three great-great-grandchildren, Emma Grace Cason, Sophia and Cason Young; several nieces and nephews and a great and caring neighbor, Francine Lawrence. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Reed. Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Bernie Weir presiding. A Christian Wake will be held at Reece Funeral Home Sunday. Published in the Ottumwa Daily Courier on 3/27/2009
