Kenworthy, a resident of the Grant vicinity nearly 40 yers died Sunday morning at her home in Grant. Mary Elizabeth McDowell was born in Pennsylvania on July 18, 1849 and lacked but a few days of being 81 years old at her death. While yet a child and she moved with her parents to Jamesville, Ohio, where she grew to womanhood. On January 13, 1888, she was united in marriage to James Kenworthy at Cambridge, Ohio. Shortly after their marriage, they came by covered wagon across the prairie to Fremont County, Iowa, later moving to Mills County, where they lived until moving to the vicinity of Grant, Montgomery County, in the spring of 1891. Mr. Kenworthy preceded his wife in death on July 19, 1903. To Mr. and Mrs. Kenworthy were born nine children, six of whom are living. The deceased are Mrs. Maude Craig, Mrs. May Ditto, and mrs. Birdie Gray Allender. Those living are Joe Kenworthy of Denver, Colorado, Fred and Frank Kenworthy and Mrs. Nora Kreger of Grant, Mrs. Della Kreger of Atlantic, and Mrs. Millie Barr of Elliott. Mrs. Kenworthy leaves also thirty grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren and a sister 89 years of age of Columbus, Ohio. During the earlier years of her life, Mrs. Kenworthy was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, but on moving to Grant her membership was transferred to the Methodist Church. Her funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in the Methodist Church in Grant and interment was in the Grant Cemetery. Villisca Review, Friday, June 27, 1930, page 4
