Puntney, another esteemed old settler of the northeast Nebraska, died at the home of her grandaughter. Mrs. Charles Swan, in the city Thursday, January 14, 1926, at the age of 75 years and ten days. Mrs. Puntney had been in failing health for over a year. Following a severe illness last spring, she went to live with a daughter in South Dakota hoping the change would benifit her health, but she derived no benefit from the change and returned to her old home in this city. She was not able to take care of herself after her return from Dakota, but was faithfully cared for by members of the family or nurses employed by them. Nothing was left undone which would contribute to her comfort and happiness but in spite of care and affection she suffered a great deal before her death. Her suffering, however, was borne with patient fortitude, and she was happy in the affection of her children. Mrs. Puntney had seen stronger for several days previous to her death, even sitting up and taking some nurishment, and the end came quietly on last Thursday morning, Grandma Puntney was no more but her memory will live in the hearts of those who knew her and loved her. Mary E. Sands was born in Mauro County, Ohio, January 4, 1851. In her early she moved with her parents to Iowa. At Denison, Iowa, in 1870 she was married to Mr. George Puntney. To this union there were born nine children f whom three died in infancy and a daughter, the youngest died about 13 years at the age of 19. Mr. Puntney died in 1917. Mr. and Mrs. George Puntney moved to Cedar County about 34 years ago settling near St, James. Mrs. Puntney was a faithful member of the Methodist Church and since it's formation in Hartington of the Congregational Church, for about 36 years being a regular attendent until her failing health made it impossible for her to walk. She has been a patient sufferer for more than a year past and died in Hartington, January 14, 1926 at the age 75 years, ten days, leaving to morn her decease besides many friends the following children: Mrs. Mae Eveleth of Witten S.D., Mrs. Hattie Johnson, Farmville, Va., Mrs. N. Riibe, Mr. W.B. Puntney, Mrs. Pearl Lanphear all of Hartington. Also surving Mrs. Puntney are a brother at Salix, Iowa, and a sister at Portland, Oregon; 42 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Charles Swan where Mrs. Puntney died and at the Congregational Church on Saturday afternoon; internment was made at the cemetery at Wynot. The daughters and other relatives from a distance were unable to attend.
