She passed away at the Thurston Nursing home in Tipton, August 17, at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 17 days. She was united in marriage to William Straub, October 28, 1876. Final Rites Held Sunday Afternoon For Mrs. William Straub, 93. Mary Ellen Bond was born at Lisbon, Iowa, October 1, 1856, daughter of William and Catherine Bond. She passed away at the Thurston Nursing home in Tipton, August 17, at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 17 days. She was united in marriage to William Straub, October 28, 1876. They lived and farmed in Muscatine and Cedar counties for 32 years, coming to Tipton in 1907, where she has resided until her passing. She was a member of the Methodist church of Tipton and was a Sunday school teacher for many years until her health failed. She was a good home-maker, a friend to everybody, and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by two sons, Tolbert and George, of Tipton, and one granddaughter whom she reared from infancy. One son, one daughter and her husband preceded her in death. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Aug. 20, 1950, at the Sheets funeral home with the Rev. Harold Kratzat officiating, and burial in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.
