I was born July 21, 1893 on a farm near Table Rock, Nebraska, the youngest of six children born to Cora Viola and Clinton Fisher. I am the sole survivor. I attended eight grades in country school. I was graduated from Pawnee City, Nebraska High School in 1911. I then attended Peru State College, Peru, Nebraska. After graduation from college in 1914, I came home at my mother's request to live with my parents and help on the farm. About 1920, I moved, with my parents, to Pawnee City. At this time, my father was blind. I cared for my parents until their deaths. My mother was truly a wonderful person. She was happiest when helping others. She was my inspiration. She and I attended Bible Study groups together. My father was a gentle man and lived by the rules. I have many happy memories of my father. When I was a child, I walked with him through the tall green grass in the pasture to bring the cows home each evening. We talked of life, honor, truth, and the beauty of God's nature all around us. I feel he was a great part of my Christian life. When he lost his sight, it saddened me that he would no longer see God's beautiful world and the beautiful sunsets. My home always had good reading material which helped mold character. At age 15, I attended Evangelistic meetings held in the Opera House in Pawnee City. I went forward with my class and confessed my faith in God. Later I was baptized and joined the Christian Church in Pawnee City and have never belonged to another church. I entertained my Church Circle and other groups in my home. I attended church every Sunday I was able. I taught Sunday School many years, and acted on the official Board- helped with church suppers and worked wherever I was needed. The Church Board decided to build a new church in 1929. I was asked by the Board to solicit money for the building fund and to reduce the indebtedness. When the building was dedicated, we had cleared the debt. After my sister became ill, and retired, she came to live with me. After the death of my sister, I lived through a summer of depression. Her death came sooner than we expected. I felt that I had failed her, that I could have done more. I was devastated, and turned to God for comfort. I knelt and prayed to Him and asked for His help, and He helped me. That has been my way of life since then. Each day I thank God for yesterday and ask for His help today. I have always enjoyed helping others, physically and financially. I was always interested in helping students After I was alone, I cared for a cousin in my home; later, another cousin; then my brother until his death. I am 92 years of age. I live alone in my own home. I am surrounded by friends of many faith. I wish to close with one of my favorites: "Take time to be holy, Speak oft with Thy Lord; Abide in Him always, And feed on His word; Make friends of God's children, Help those who are weak, Forgetting in nothing, His blessing to seek. Take time to be holy, Let Him be the Guide. And run not before Him, Whatever betide; In joy or in sorrow, Still follow the Lord, In joy or in sorrow, Still follow the Lord, And, looking to Jesus, Still trust in His Word." Mary passed away March 6, 1993 at the age of 99 years, 7 months and 12 days. She leaves a niece Ruth and a nephew Richard, and many friends to mourn her passing. Interment was in the Pawnee City Cemetery, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
