Mary HAYS, age 15, married Solomon ALLRED III about 1748 most likely in Frederick County, Maryland. As a young single man Solomon ALLRED III and his brothers are believed to have traveled down the Great Wagon Road on horse back. They came to camp out and build a Log Cabin in North Carolina in about 1746 on Sandy Creek in Colonial Anson (now Randolph) County, North Carolina, USA. Herman Husband received a land grant on March 15, 1755 for 640 acres at head of Sandy Creek north east of Deep River. Herman Husband's tract bordered the 1756 Land Grant of Semore YORK for 640 acres on Sandy Creek where Jeremiah York also lived. The Herman Husband Home and Mill were on the west banks of Sandy Creek where old highway 49 to Liberty crosses the Sandy Creek. The deteriorated mill pond and mill run are on the north west side of the highway bridge north of the Sandy Creek Baptist Church. This tract also included a log cabin built by Solomon Allred and later in 1756 was adjacent to the Sandy Creek Baptist church on 2 acres given by Seymour York from his Land Grant to the church. It is suggested Solomon arrived a few years ahead of the family to select the land and build a log cabin along the Sandy Creek in 1746. Then it is proposed Solomon may have returned to Frederick County, Maryland to marry Mary HAYS in 1748. Then with his new bride and perhaps one or two children they traveled down the Virginia Shenandoah Valley on the Great Wagon Road to their already built new log cabin by about 1750. They were among the first pioneers with a new log cabin in backwoods country of (Now Randolph County) North Carolina without waiting for it to be built.
