Grant, 19, of Swain County, to Mary Holbrook, age 18, of Swain County; on May 8, 1910 at "Silver Creek Church House" in Nantahala Township of Swain County, NC by James M Lee, Baptist Minister; Witnesses J.W. Styles, W.L Lindsay, JR Holden. Three children were born to this union, both in Nantahala, Swain County, NC: Oscar Lyle Grant - born January 26, 1910 Emmitt Harold Grant November 16, 1913 Wilma Grant born October 26, 1916; (this is the 3rd child counted on Jim's WWI Registration which says "3 dependent children"). Mary died in about 1917 and was buried at the Grant Family Cemetery. Note; Jim's WWI Registration Card states he is married. So, this may be the proof that she died after June 5, 1917. For sure she died before Dec 24, 1918 when Jim married again. Mountain Links ——————————— NOTE: I noticed someone merged the original memorial with on in California. This Mary was not ever living in California and was buried in the Grant Family Cemetery. She died leaving two very young sons and a distraught husband. Please do research and don't merge based on approximate dates. This one was from the mountains of TN/NC and family know her place of burial. She was also not Catholic but as her husband, was of the Baptist faith. The one in California is the niece of J.Daniel O'Connor, was born in NJ, had 2 children, Gladys and Howard; her name was May Helen Donovon and she was married to Frank Grant.
