She had been bedfast only 4 days. Funeral services will be at 9 a. m. Monday at SS. Peter and Paul's church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Holy Angels cemetery, Roselle. Mrs. Fischer was a Gold Star mother and the oldest member of the Garroll unit of the American Legion auxiliary. Her son, John, died during World war I. Born Mary Horn Dec. 4, 1858, in Illinois, Mrs. Fischer came to Carroll county in 1868 with her parents, Anton and Catherine Horn, who settled on a farm north of Roselle. Her marriage to Wolfgang Fischer took place at Mt. Carmel. The couple farmed in the Roselle vicinity. In 1915 they moved into the Carroll street residence. Mr. Fischer died in 1927. Mrs. Fischer leaves six children: Joe and Peter, Carroll; Mrs. Carl Rastetter (Emma), Pierz, Minn., Mrs. John Diedrich (Cencia), St. James, Minn.; Elizabeth Fischer, at home, and Edward Fischer, Sun Valley, Calif. Five children preceded her in death: Conrad, who died at the ago of four years; and Benhard, 21; John in 1918; Theresa in 1937, and Anna in 1949. December 2, 1948 - Carroll Daily Times Herald - Mrs. Mary Fischer, a resident of Carroll county for 80 years, will observe her 90th birthday Saturday in what she says will be in the "usual quiet way." The Carroll pioneer lives with her son and daughter, Peter and Elizabeth Fischer, at 127 South Carroll street. Mrs. Fischer, born December 4, 1858, came to this county with her parents when she was 10 years old. The family was part of a covered wagon caravan that came here from Galesburg, Illinois. The journey filled with typical hardships of early travelers, required three weeks time, Mrs Fischer recalls. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Horn, moved into a vacated school house at Roselle. The long time county resident recalls that there were not enough pupils to hold school. Mrs. Fischer remembers the vicious blizzards of those days. In one, March 14, 1870, her father and three other men froze to death between Carroll and Roselle. The four men were marooned three days before rescue workers found them. She married Wolfgang Fischer and the couple lived near Roselle until 1910 when they moved to Carroll. She also vividly remembers how farms were so far apart. The closest neighbor was nine miles away when they moved out to Roselle from Illinois, she says. Her husband died in 1927 and four of 11 children are dead, including John, who was killed in France during World war I. In addition to her children with whom she lives, the others are Anna and Joseph of Carroll; Mrs. Cencia Deiderich, St. James, Minn.; Mrs. Emma Rastetter, Pierz, Minn., and Edward, Roscoe, Calif.
