Read More	From The Wolbach Messenger, November 5, 1970, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney: Mrs. Mary Kolar was born May 2, 1899 near Ashton to Louis and Rose (Suchanek) Bartunek. She departed this life on October 27, 1970 in a Grand Island hospital at the age of 71 years, five months and 25 days. The family moved from Ashton to St. Paul where they resided for a period of time, then moved to a farm southeast of Wolbach. When she was six years of age the family moved into Wolbach. She attended the Wolbach public school and following her schooling she was employed as a clerk for Sime and Polly Greer General Store. On November 21, 1916 she was united in marriage to Edward L. Kolar in St. Paul. The couple resided on a farm southwest of Wolbach. The first six months of their marriage they lived in a shanty while their new home was being finished. They were engaged in active farming until 1950. The couple remained living on the farm until December of 1958 when they again moved into a shanty of their present home until the new home was finished the following fall. To this union were born a daughter, Norma and two sons, Edwin L. and Donald F. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, son Edwin who was married to Marialice Peetz, who is now Mrs. Glenn Nuernberger, and a son, Donald, who died in 1927 at the age of three months. Surviving are her husband, Edward; one daughter, Mrs. Norma Haggstrom of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Berggren of St. Paul and Mrs. Lydia Russell of Grand Island. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Wolbach and had been a member in many different organizations in the past, including 4-H leadership. She was always interested and worked fort the betterment of her community. She was always pleasant with cheerful smile for everyone and helping anyone in need. She was a lover of nature, liked to create and grow many different plants. Little children were her delight. Her main concern was always her immediate family and she was dearly beloved by all.
