Deadwood Daily Pioneer-Times newspaper, Friday, April 2, 1915, page 5: Mrs. Mary Ward of Terry will have a hearing before the county board of insanity today. She appeared some time ago, but as it was believed there was a probability of improvement in her condition the case was postponed until April 15. Yesterday the authorities were notified that she had become much worse and was indulging in acts of violence, including the smashing of furniture in her home. Deadwood Daily Pioneer-Times, Saturday, April 3, 1915, page 5: Mrs. Mary Ward of Terry, who has been adjudged of unsound mind by the county board of insanity, and ordered committed to the state asylum, will be permitted to remain at her home until an attendant arrives from Yankton to escort here there. Deadwood Daily Pioneer-Times, Tuesday, May 4, 1915, page 6: Word has been received here that Miss Mary Ward, who a few weeks ago was taken to the state hospital at Yankton, had died at that institution last Saturday. The young woman had formerly lived in Nevada gulch, where her relatives now reside. Her body is expected to arrive in Lead today, and will be taken charge of by her relatives. Burial will be in the Municipal cemetery at Lead. Lead Daily Call newspaper, Wednesday, May 5, 1915, page 10: The body of Mrs. Mary E. Ward arrived today from Yankton, where she had passed away a few days ago at the state hospital. Funeral services will be held from the Rounsevell undertaking parlors at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, Rev. Mackintosh presiding. Interment will be in the Municipal cemetery. Lead Daily Call, Friday, May 7, 1915, page 8: Yesterday afternoon, from the Methodist church, occurred the funeral of the late Mrs. Mae (sic) Ward, Rev. Hartt presiding at the services in the church and at the grave. The funeral was attended by many of the friends of the deceased and her immediate family. Interment was in the Municipal cemetery.
