Mary Louisa Olander, daughter of Andrew Augusta and Bridget Olander, was born February 11, 1871, at Kisa, Ostergotland, Sweden and passed away suddenly at the West Portal Nursing Home, Clarinda, Iowa on Thursday, March 4, 1965, at the age of 94 years. When she was eight years of age, she came with her family to the Hawthorn Community near Red Oak, and she lived the rest of her life in Montgomery County. In February 1893, she was united in marriage to Melker Peterson and they engaged in farming their entire married life. To this union five sons and five daughters were born. Mr. Peterson passed away on March 1, 1916, and she continued to farm for seven years with the help of the oldest members of her family. She and her family then moved to Villisca where she resided until suffering a fall abut four and a half years ago making it necessary for her to be confined to the nursing home. Mrs. Peterson was a member of the Villisca Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Milton Oliver, who died at the age of nine years. She is survived by nine children, Delmar A. Peterson of Kansas City, Missouri, Carl Peterson of Noel, Missouri, Clarence Peterson of Red Oak, George Peterson of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Ruby Maxwell of Clarinda, Mrs. Grace Bentley of Villisca, Mrs. Mabel Roberts of Red Oak, Mrs. Edith Loutenhizer of Blockton, Iowa, and Mrs. Minnie Dickinson of Pacoima, California, 24 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
