Death come as a result of a severe attack of appendicitis, Tuesday, February 22, Mr. Peterson was taken to Omaha with this acute affliction and it was expected that he would be operated on at once. Soon after being taken there his appendix bursted and from Saturday until the time of his death he lay very low, never rallying from the critical condition, Mrs. Peterson was at his bedside when he died. J. D. Farlin and C. C. Barnes went to Omaha Wednesday evening to be of whatever assistance they could. The remains were brought to Villisca, Thursday evening and taken at once to the home on the Barnes farm near Morton Mills. Funeral services were held from the home Saturday. Melker Peterson, was born in Sweden, November 22, 1863 and at the time of his death was 52 years, 3 months, and 9 days of age. He came to America settling her Emerson in this state. After a brief residence there he went to Pottawattamie County where he resided a few years. he then came to this county and had made his home in this community continuously since. In this country he is survived by his wife and nine children, and one sister, Mrs. Sandquist of near Red Oak. Villisca Review, Villisca, Iowa, Saturday, March 4, 1916, page 1
