Description	:	BARBUR, MARY LOUISE LOUISE—Mary Louise Barbur was born to Henry Volz and Katherine Elizabeth Eurich Volz on April 9, 1897, at Friend, and passed away after a long illness on November 8, 1983, at the Fillmore county hospital in Geneva at the age of 86 years, six months and 29 days. Read More	BARBUR, MARY LOUISE LOUISE—Mary Louise Barbur was born to Henry Volz and Katherine Elizabeth Eurich Volz on April 9, 1897, at Friend, and passed away after a long illness on November 8, 1983, at the Fillmore county hospital in Geneva at the age of 86 years, six months and 29 days. She was one of five children in the family. She grew up on a farm near Friend and graduated from the Friend High School and taught in a rural school until she was married. She was married to James B. Barbur of Exeter on July 22, 1918, and to them four children were born. After farming for several years, they moved to Lincoln where Jim learned the greenhouse and florist trade. In 1925 they moved to Geneva, where they founded the Barbur Floral Company. She worked with her husband for many years as a florist. After their retirement, they moved into their new home in Geneva. The home was a great joy to her. A neat and meticulous person, she had it always ready for guests. She loved to entertain and the holidays and special times in the lives of her family gave her much pleasure. She was one who always gave freely of herself during illnesses and adversities in her children’s lives. She rejoiced in every accomplishment of her grandchildren and before her illness, delighted greatly in her great-grandchildren. Louise and Jim were privileged to live a long married life. They loved to square dance and travelled extensively here and abroad with square dancing groups, forming many new friendships. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and was an honorary member of the Women’s Fellowship and a 50-year member and past matron of Eastern Star 180 of Geneva. Louise, as she was known by her friends, was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harry Volz and Herbert Volz; husband, James B. Barbur; a son-in-law, Dale White; and daughters-in-law, Sharon Barbur and Lola Barbur. She is survived by two sons, James J. and wife Daisy of East Lake, Ohio, and Charles E. of Geneva; two daughters, Mrs. John (Dolores) Votipka of rural Fairmont, and Mrs. Sheldon (Mary) Johnson of Geneva; one brother Bennett Volz of Lincoln; a sister, Mrs. George (Dorothy) Asmus of Friend; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer and Son funeral home in Geneva on Thursday, November 10, with the Rev. Charles Schepel and Pastor Woodrow W. Wilson officiating. Mrs. Willard Foster accompanied Curt Prater who sang “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” and “Peace in the Valley.” Those servicing as pallbearers were grandsons Charles E. and Robert S. Barbur, Jim and Gary White, Mike Johnson and Richard Hoarty. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 12 November 1983
