Born and grew to womanhood in Fairfield and had spent the greater part of her life here. Her father, William ALSTON, was one of the early influential settlers of Jefferson County. He entered and purchased from the U.S. Government a number of tracts of land in Jefferson County. For many years he had a grocery and general store in Fairfield. (ALSTON) BARNES, former resident, died Monday, Feb. 28, in Los Angeles, Calif.. Eighty-two years old. Born and grew to womanhood in Fairfield and had spent the greater part of her life here. Her father, William ALSTON, was one of the early influential settlers of Jefferson County. He entered and purchased from the U.S. Government a number of tracts of land in Jefferson County. For many years he had a grocery and general store in Fairfield. He was one of the founders of the old First National Bank and was one of its principal stockholders. Mary was the last of her family, her brothers, William E. ALSTON and Henry C. ALSTON having preceded her in death. Her son, Rex W. VOTE and his wife, Helen CLARKE VOTE, and their son Robert, survive her. Her other son, Earl, died during the past year. The body, accompanied by Helen CLARKE VOTE, will arrive in Fairfield on No. 6 of the Burlington Saturday March 5th, and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
