Description	:	Mary Mae (Balogh) Green, 91, of Pierre, died Thursday, February 2, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Pierre. Mary Mae (Balogh) Green was born November 26, 1920 in Mission, Texas to Steve and Engel (Meester) Balogh. As a small child, Mary moved with her parents from Mission, TX to Willow Lake, SD. Read More	Mary Mae (Balogh) Green, 91, of Pierre, died Thursday, February 2, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Pierre. Mary Mae (Balogh) Green was born November 26, 1920 in Mission, Texas to Steve and Engel (Meester) Balogh. As a small child, Mary moved with her parents from Mission, TX to Willow Lake, SD. She attended grade school and graduated from the Willow Lake High School. Following high school she attended Madison State College obtaining her teaching degree. She taught school for five years in the Willow Lake vicinity. Mary met the love of her life, Glenn Green, in her Willow Lake high school years. They married June 14, 1941, and would have celebrated 70 years of marriage in June of last year. Her husband Glenn passed away February 27, 2011. Glenn was stationed in the United States Army at California. Mary spent several months there with him and worked at the Port of Embarkation. Following his discharge they returned to Willow Lake. In 1948 they moved to Lake Preston where they lived for 29 years. While there she was a bookkeeper for the Lake Preston Creamery and a teacher's aide. Glenn and Mary moved to Pierre in 1977, immediately melting into the community, taking part in community activities. Mary worked for the South Dakota Real Estate Commission and State Department of Motor Vehicles. She retired in 1983. Mary was most proud of her marriage of nearly 70 years to Glenn. Her children and their families include her daughters, Sally Christenson and her husband Bernie, of Pierre, and Peggy Hanafin, of Rapid City; her grandchildren, Nathan Welsh, his wife, Nicole, their sons Jackson James and Declan Glenn of Sioux Falls, Macy (Welsh) Kaiser, her husband Mike of Chicago, IL., Brian Hanafin, his wife, Sarah, their son, Patrick Glenn, Orlando, FL., and Katie Hanafin, of Minneapolis, MN. Other survivors include her sister, Dorothy, and her husband Virgel of Madison. Sister Darlene, and her husband, Steve, of Findley, OH, and many nieces and nephews; step-grandchildren, Brad Christenson, of Aberdeen, Brian and Kate Christenson, of Santa Rosa Beach, FL., and their children, and Kathy Christenson and special friend, Bryan Walz, of Pierre. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband Glenn, brother Kenneth "Bud" Balogh, and sister LeAlma Thompson. Mary enjoyed her home and having her family gathered around at Christmas, a time they could all be together. She was a great cook and her family looked forward to the many treats she made available, especially the home made caramel rolls. The favorite gathering spot at her home was always around the kitchen counter where laughter, tears, discussion and advice freely flowed. She and Glenn attended most of the grandchildren activities in Pierre and Rapid City. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Congregational Church, Ladies Fellowship, PEO, Hospital Auxiliary, several bridge groups, stitching and enjoyed doing volunteer work for Hospice, RSVP and other organizations. Mary enjoyed time with Glenn boating and socializing on the Missouri River. They spent many hours with their thermos of coffee and basket of lunch at various locations along the river. In later years, she enjoyed the view of the river from her home, observing countless eagle spotting, sunsets, river activities and the changing of the seasons. Mary went to the Golden Living Center in February of 2011. She made the adjustment from living in her home by the Missouri River to the nursing home without one complaint. She made many new friends and especially enjoyed the kind, caring and concerned employees at the Center. Her family will be forever grateful to the center for making Mary's last year of life a proud and fulfilling experience and to her many friends living in Pierre for their many visitations. Memorials have been established at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Pierre and other designations specified by Mary. Visitation will be from 5-7pm, Monday, February 6 at Isburg Funeral Chapel with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm. Services will be 1:00pm, Tuesday, February 7 at the United Church of Christ with burial at Riverside Cemetery.
