She was past 72 years of age at the time of her death. Mrs. Johnson is survived by two daughters, one son, three grandchildren and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter and one son. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Calvary Methodist Church, with the Rev. W.S. Paige, pastor of the church, officiating at the services. Interment was made in Oakwood Cemetery, with the Jackson Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Johnson was an active member of the Methodist church, and was also a member of Avon chapter of the O.E.S., and of the Royal Neighbor Lodge here. Stratford Courier November 10, 1949 Obituary Mrs. Sanford Johnson Mary Matilda Blomberg, daughter of Charles and Carrie Blomberg, was born on a farm near Boxholm, Iowa, Jan. 13, 1877, and passed away in the county hospital at Webster City, Oct. 31, 1949, at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 18 days. She was united in marriage to Sanford Johnson on Feb. 19, 1899, and to this union five children were born: Irene, Melvin, Mildred, Helen and Lee. Preceding her in death were her parents, one sister, Anna; three brothers, Andrew, Victor, and John; her daughter, Irene; her son, Lee, and her husband, Sanford, who passed away on Feb. 12, 1948. Mrs. Johnson had made her home in Stratford for 48 years. She was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church, the Women's Society of Christian Service, the Eastern Star and the Royal Neighbor Lodges, and she took an active part in these organizations as long as her health permitted. Following the death of her son, Lee, in 1928, she had assisted her husband in the drug store until his retirement from the drug profession in 1946. She was always busy and eager to keep herself occupied and useful, even after her health began to fall following her husband's death. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her son, Melvin, of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Mildred Eslick, of Lehigh; and Helen Beach of Minneapolis, Minn.; three grandsons, Melvin Jr., and Owen Johnson, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Robert Beach of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Carol Rose of Hartline, Wash., and Thelma Gibson of Ontario, Calif., and one brother, Reuben Blomberg of Fort Dodge, Iowa, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held in the Calvary Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 2, at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Warren S. Paige officiating. Songs for the service were sung by Mrs. Lester Carlson, soloist, who sang two selections, "In The Garden," and "Does Jesus Care?" Piano accompaniments were played by Mrs. Ronald Bell. Officers of Avon Chapter No. 504, Order of Eastern Star, conducted burial services at the church. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Earl Anderson, Mrs. Frank Poulson and Mrs. M.E. Pomeroy. After the services the remains were escorted to Oakwood Cemetery for interment. The pallbearers were Dr. M.E. Pomeroy, Dr. H.W. Krieger, D.E. Passmore, J.J. Jorgenson, W.H. Doerr and H.E. Hubner.
