Garis, residents of Claresholm, died suddenly last Saturday afternoon at her home death being due to a heart attack. Shortly after the noon meal she complained to the daughter of severe pains in the stomach and wanted the daughter to go to a certain neighbour for help. Upon the daughter's return the mother was in a state of collapse and died before a doctor could be summoned. Deceased was born sixty-two years ago last 23 of May near Bancroft, Iowa, one of the last of the pioneer settlements of that state. At the time of her birth her parents' home was a dugout in the side of a hill. She grew to womanhood here and in 1895 was married to Mr Garis. In 1901 they moved to North Dakota and in 1910 came to Alberta and engaged in farming near Claresholm until a few years ago when the family moved into town. There were three children, two sons: William Leonard and one daughter, Lois. Funeral services were held in the United Church at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon, Rev R.W. Dalgleish conducted the services. The funeral was directed by Geo. W Ringrose and the following were pallbearers: J.O. White; Geo H Carney; J Marsh; Ole Dahl; Joe Dunn and Ben Coutts.
