Mrs. Mary Brown, the aged widow of the late Michael Brown, of Castle Grove township, died at an early hour, yesterday morning at her home. Mrs. Brown bad reached the advanced age of eighty-seven years, but for a long time previous to her death she was in practically a helpless condition. Because of her mental incapacity, she had been under guardianship for a period of three years. During all of that period she was faithfully and affectionately cared for, first by her daughter, Christina, until the death of the latter about a year ago, and since then, and also before in connection with Christina, by her daughter, Mrs. J . F. Mann. Her wants were all supplied, and she was given the careful and tender attention that a mother should have from a daughter. Mrs. Brown was a native of Germany but had resided in this county for a half century or more. Her husband died about thirty years ago, and the direction of affairs devolved upon her. She was a woman of strong personality, industrious, pushing, active and economical, and it was thus that she accumulated a considerable tract of land which she deeded to her children several years ago, subject to her life use thereof. Mrs. Brown was the mother of six surviving children who are Louis Brown, of Aberdeen, Washington; Mrs. Mary Mann, of Castle Grove township; John Brown, of Creston, Iowa; Philip Brown, of Monticello; Mrs. Maggie Bickerstaff, of Morley and Frederick Brown, of Independence. Three of her children died after reaching maturity, namely, Christina, Adam and George, the latter of whom left a widow and several children. The funeral will be held next Saturday afternoon. The funeral procession will start from the house at one o'clock and will reach the German Lutheran church at Prairie Hill about 1:45. Interment will be had in the cemetery adjoining the church.
