Sept 13, 1937 - Carroll Daily - Mrs. E.B. Crossett, 78, a longtime resident of Carroll, died at her home on North Clark street at 3:20 o'clock Sunday afternoon from a stroke which she suffered at her home Friday morning. She passed away without regaining consciousness from the time she was stricken. All of her children and all of her sisters and brothers were at her bedside when death claimed her. Mrs. Crossett had enjoyed excellent health until early this spring. In April she underwent a major operation at the St. Anthony hospital from which she recovered nicely. During the last few months she had apparently been in her usual good health and had been able to attend to home duties. She was preparing the noon meal at the time she was stricken. The body was taken at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon from the Huffman Funeral home to the family home where it will repose until Tuesday noon. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. A.O. Bleeke, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, will be held at the Huffman funeral home at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Burial will be beside her husband in the family lot in the Carroll cemetery and pallbearers will be five grandsons: Loren Jones of Syracuse, N.Y., Edward, Vernon, and Arden Jones of Onawa Raymond Pruss of Omaha and a nephew, Glenn Wohlenberg, of Carroll. Mrs. Crossett was born Mary Peck, daughter of Herman and Margaret Groon Peck, on Sept 8, 1859, at Dixon, Illinois. She attended school at Prarieville, a village near Dixon. When she was 15 years old the family moved to a farm one mile north of Lidderdale. She completed her schooling at the Prairieville school near Lidderdale. At the family home in the country she became the bride of E.B. Crossett of Carroll on May 31, 1881. Mr. and Mrs. Crossett lived in Carroll for a few years before moving to Boone, where they resided for four years. They then returned to Carroll which has been Mrs. Crossett's home for the last 49 years. She has lived in her residence on North Clark street during all of that time. Mr. Crossett passed away on Feb. 9, 1928. Mrs. Crossett was a member of the Lutheran church, in which she was baptised and confirmed in early girlhood. Surviving Mrs. Crossett are four children: Mrs. O.G. Jones (Agnes), Onawa; Mrs. F.J. Brackett (Ellen), and Chester Crossett, both at home; and Mrs. W.C. Pruss (Grace), Omaha. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. J.T, Judge (Margaret), Mrs. J.C. Wohlenberg (Minnie), Mrs. Herman Hesslingh (Hattie), all of Carroll, and Mrs. Hugo Gotsch (Lillie) of Lidderdale and two brothers, George J. Peck and William Peck, of Lidderdale. She also leaves an uncle, John Groon, who lives at the Herman Hesslingh home. Mrs. Crossett was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one sister, Mrs. Henry Ojers (Anna). Mrs. Ojers died Sept, 2, 1936.
