Interment will be in South Lead Cemetery under the direction of Fidler Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Marchiando was born Aug. 15, 1885 in Springfield, Ill., to Batista and Lucy Peretti, pioneer residents of the Black Hills who came to make their home in Terry when Mary was six months old. The family later moved to Lead where Mrs. Marchiando had spent her entire life. Her marriage to Joseph Marchiando took place July 5, 1904 in Lead. He preceded her in death June 15, 1942. Mrs. Marchiando was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Her survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Constance Island, Mrs. Flora Hoftiezer and Mrs. Eleanor Hackett, all in Lead; a son, Frank Marchiando, Maquoketa, Iowa. Nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Marchiando was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and also a longtime member of Degree of Honor Lodge. Lead Daily Call, Friday, April 18, 1960, page 3: LEAVING for their homes after coming to Lead to attend the funeral of Mary Marchiando last week were her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Barbara Marchiando of Maquoeta, Iowa and three of her grandchildren. Richard Maslana, son of Eleanor Hackett was able to return for the rites. He is with Drogheda Company, an international electronics firm. Two other grandsons, David and Donald Island returned to Lead for a brief stay. David is general manager of Morse Publishing company, an ecumenical center in Medford, Ore. Donald has returned to his research duties at the Division of Endocrinology at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.
