He died on/about Nov. 25, 1839 and is thought to be buried in what is now regarded to be "Koons" cemetery, but that family cemetery was long ago plowed over by an owner/farmer of the land and while seven headstones were later found (but not necessarily fully matched to individuals), there is nothing of this family cemetery that remains. While there is a "Koons" cemetery listing in Jefferson county, Iowa, entered by another contributor (with 13 headstone photos requests outstanding), that cemetery entry should have been made noting that the area where the family cemetery once was is no longer a viable cemetery suitable for any plot view/headstone photos. The few headstones that were once found have since been lost. Mary "Polly" 'Eller' Koons later remarried to Claibourne C. Tinsley in Jefferson county, Iowa on August 28, 1842. The Jefferson county marriage record # 134 listed her name as "Polly Koons", which led to the initial belief that her maiden name was "Koons", the marriage record not indicating that "Koons" was her first marriage surname.
