Jones was not only a loving wife and mother but an angel of mercy and a champion of the poor as many in the community have noted. For 60 years she has spearheaded charity efforts like combining the Church Women United and the Salvation Army to meet the needs of the area poor and disadvantaged. As a child growing up in a poor but loving family she was always aware of those who had less than she and was ready to share. One of her first endeavors was to open her home for used clothing which she washed and mended for distribution to the needy. An outgrowth of that came the selecting an outfit and shoes for the first day of school for the needy children. Then, because of a generous bequest a "voucher project" began whereby eligible people were signed up to select their own clothing and shoes. When money ran out she began her search for contributions from area foundations. Her efforts were well received. Her next project was being instrumental in setting the Action Information Direction referral agency for people needing financial assistance to help with bills and prescriptions. She also found time to spearhead the Annual Christmas Giving Project at St. Paul's Catholic Church in conjunction with the Salvation Army in Salem. In 1986 she was awarded the "Citizen of the year" from the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. Her family thanks her for teaching them, by doing, how to care for all. We love you Mom. Bob, Jackie, Tom, Steve and Bill. Mary T. Jones 91, of Copeland Oaks Retirement Community, Sebring, died 12:27 p.m. Friday, Nov, 11, 2011 at Salem Community Hospital. She was born on Dec. 8, 1919 in Elizabeth, NJ to the late Cajetan and Louise (Bladzinska) . She moved to Salem in 1938 from New Jersey. She was an active member of Salem St. Paul Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, LCBA, President of Our Lady of Good Council Study, board member of Our Ladies Purse, and chairperson and past president of social concerns for Church Women United. She was united in marriage on April 30, 1938 to Leonard A. Jones. They were blessed with five children, Robert L. (Greer) Jones of Portage, In., Jackie L. (Peter) Wald of Hoover, Al., Thomas A. (Mary Martha) Jones of Dayton, Ohio, Steven A. (Hildegun) Jones of Karlstad, Sweden, and William H. (Elaine T. Rose) Jones II of Seattle, Wa.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two siblings, Jean Wlazlowski of Flower Mound, Tx. And Henry Wojtaszek of Linden, NJ.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband on May 21, 1986, three sisters and three brothers. A Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, 11 a.m. at Salem St. Paul Catholic Church. The burial will be in Grandview Cemetery Source: The Salem News
