Novotny farm home northwest of Clutier and at 10 o’clock at Immaculate Conception church here – for Mrs. Mary Podhajsky, 81 who died about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Novotny after a long illness The Rev. Father Thomas Vopatek will be in charge. Suffering from a complication of diseases, Mrs. Podhajsky had been in failing health for the last two or three years and was bedfast several weeks before her death. She would have been 82 years old next March. She was Mary Vondracek before her marriage to Frank Podhajsky in Tama county on June 10, 1880. The couple lived for more than forty years on the farm south of Traer known as the Podhajsky homestead and now occupied by Edward Podhajsky, a son. About 1924 or 1925 they retired from the farm and moved to Clutier, where their golden wedding anniversary was celebrated in June 1930. Mr. Podhajsky died in September of the same year. His widow continued to maintain her own home in Clutier as long as health permitted, but of late had lived with Mrs. Novotny, her only daughter. The decedent was the mother of seven children, one son dying in infancy. Those surviving are Frank L., Fred J., Edward, Charles and James J. Podhajsky, and the daughter already mentioned. Mrs. Podhajsky also leaves one sister, Mrs. Sebetka, of Cedar Rapids. The decedent was a highly respected resident of the community, and her passing is widely mourned.
