Description	:	The funeral service for Mathias Osweiler, aged 90 years,who died last Wednesday evening at 8:30 o'clock at the home of his son, Ed, near Webster, was held on Friday morning at Saints Peter and Paul's church at Clear Creek, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Osweiler was born on February 5, 1854 in Prussia, German and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Osweiler. When he was six years old, he came with his parents to the United States, and they located on a farm south of Harper in Clear Creek township. On June 20, 1880 he was united in marriage to Margaret Ludwig of Plank township and they started housekeeping on a farm, east of Mr. Osweiler's parents' home, two miles west of Saints Peter and Paul's church, where they lived until Mrs. Osweiler's death in 1926. Since then, Mr. Osweiler made his home with his sons and daughters, and has spent the past 10 years with his son, Ed and family. The couple became the parents of 11 children, three of whom preceded Mr. Osweiler in death, Mrs. August Strong, Celia Osweiler and Matt Osweiler. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Mary Slattery of Omaha, Nebraska; seven sons, Ed of Webster, George of Cedar Rapids, John of South English, Pete of Bonaparte, Alois of Fort Dodge, Clarence of Pocahontas, and Frank of Sigourney; 46 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Eleven of his grandsons bearing the Osweiler name are in the service of their country, one, Clair, having made the supreme sacrifice, being killed in action in North Africa in March 1943. He was the son of Pete Osweiler. The other grandsons include Cletus, German prisoner of war, Victor, in the South Pacific, Donald, in France and Charles in Texas, sons of George Osweiler; Richard, overseas and Cyril, station not known at present, sons of Frank Osweiler; Edward, who received an honorable medical discharge, Mervin in the South Pacific and Daniel, in France, sons of John Osweiler and Raymond J. in the Medical Corps in England, son of Ed Osweiler.
