Description	:	Edward Osweiler, 79, of Sigourney, passed away at 3 p.m. Friday, December 9, in the Jefferson County hospital at Fairfield, where he had been a patient since Saturday, December 3. Mr. Osweiler, with his wife, and his brother Frank and his wife, were in a two car accident Saturday, December 3, just south of Fairfield. His brother suffered bruises and from shock, but was not hospitalized. Mrs. Edward Osweiler suffered a broken shoulder and Mrs. Frank Osweiler received back and neck injuries. Read More	Edward Osweiler, 79, of Sigourney, passed away at 3 p.m. Friday, December 9, in the Jefferson County hospital at Fairfield, where he had been a patient since Saturday, December 3. Mr. Osweiler, with his wife, and his brother Frank and his wife, were in a two car accident Saturday, December 3, just south of Fairfield. His brother suffered bruises and from shock, but was not hospitalized. Mrs. Edward Osweiler suffered a broken shoulder and Mrs. Frank Osweiler received back and neck injuries. They both were patients at the Jefferson County hospital for a week and were later transferred by ambulance to the Keokuk County Hospital in Sigourney, where they remain patients. Funeral service for Mr. Osweiler was held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic church in Sigourney with the Rev. J. M. Mackin in charge, with the Rev. A. H. Kempker, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church in Keswick assisting. Burial was in the Ss. Peter and Paul's cemetery at Clear Creek. Pall bearers were Louis Osweiler, Kenneth Vogel, Cletus Osweiler, Douglas Osweiler, Robert Osweiler, Bernard Dumont. Mr. Osweiler was born April 12, 1881 at Harper, the son of Mathias and Margaret Ludwig Osweiler. His early life was spent in that community. On November 23, 1909 he was married to Frances Vogel at the Ss. Peter and Paul's church at Clear Creek. They farmed in the Harper community until 1918, then moved to a farm northwest of Sigourney until 1928. He then moved to a farm near Webster, where he remained until he retired in 1950, and moved to Sigourney. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Matthew and George; two sisters, Frances and Cecilia; two grandchildren, Cathy Yoakam and Cindy Bair; two sons-in-law were killed in service, Lieut. Floyd Bair, in a bomber crash at Thornburg and Ray Lester, killed in a jet plane crash in France in April 1958; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harold Osweiler, of Cedar Rapids, passed away in 1958. He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Geneva, now Mrs. Howard Streigel; Gertrude, Mrs. Ray Lester of Des Moines; Elizabeth, Mrs. Marvin Yoakam of Thornburg; Joan, Mrs. Don Bair of Keswick; Rita, Mrs. Jerry Nevarre, in Paris, France; five sons, Harold of Cedar Rapids, Hubert of Keswick, James of Rose Hill, Ray of Sigourney, and M/Sgt. Leo Osweiler in the U.S. Air Force at Las Vegas, Nevada; 20 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; five brothers, Peter of Bonaparte, John of North English, Frank of Sigourney, Clarence of Pocahontas, Aloysius of Fort Dodge; one sister, Mary Osweiler of Omaha Nebraska.
