Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Watertown, SD. Rev. Roger Spahr will officiate. Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and in the church on Monday prior to the services. Matthew John Siebrands was born on October 26, 1931, to George Sr. and Loretta (Kruse) Siebrands at Herman, MN. He moved to South Dakota when he was eight years old. He attended country school in Willow Lake and Bryant, graduating from Willow Lake High School in 1949. He then started farming with his dad. On September 15, 1950, Matt married Alyce Brenden. The couple lived in the Willow Lake area until 1988. They then moved to Watertown. While farming, Matt also ran a car crushing business from 1971 to 1997. In 1976, the couple began to travel each year to Texas. They did volunteer mission work in many states as well as Mexico and Nicaragua. He built houses and churches for people in need. He also used Hector, a yellow bird puppet, in his message to evangelize as he wanted all to know the Lord. Matt enjoyed his time down south, visiting friends and family, telling jokes, playing Dominos, and making homemade ice cream. The Gideon ministry was very important to him. He presented the Gideon message of salvation to many churches and was faithful in distributing Bibles. Matt is survived by his wife, Alyce, of Sioux Falls; children: Arlys (Greg) Skyberg of DeSmet, SD, Chrystal (Gordon) Poppen of Sioux Falls, SD, Brenda (Lonny) Warne of Rapid City, SD, Shelly (Darold) Friese of Ruthton, MN, Doug (Shana) Siebrands of Monument, CO, Kara (Asen) Ivanov of Watertown, SD; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Marie (Merle) Brenden of Mesa, AZ and Ruth (Del) Brown of Hartford, SD; and a brother, George Jr. (Shirley) Siebrands of Willow Lake, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents.
