Description	:	Maude King, age 83, formerly of Burke, died Sat., July 28, 2007 at Freeman, SD. Maude was born on April 28, 1924 to Lee and Pearl (Dappen) Stevicks near Lucas SD at a little town, then called, Mullen, SD in her great aunt Jane Carter's home. She grew up on the family farm near Lucas, S.D. area and attended rural school. She attended Burke High School for one year and then worked out as a "hired girl" for different families in the area. Maude was born on April 28, 1924 to Lee and Pearl (Dappen) Stevicks near Lucas SD at a little town, then called, Mullen, SD in her great aunt Jane Carter's home. She grew up on the family farm near Lucas, S.D. area and attended rural school. She attended Burke High School for one year and then worked out as a "hired girl" for different families in the area. She also worked at a poultry and egg processing plant in Winner during World War II. Maude accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at a cottage meeting held in a farm home when she was eleven years old. Some years later she followed the Lord in believer's baptism and joined the Lucas Baptist Church. When Clifford returned from duty in the Navy, they were married on June 17, 1946, at Burke. Attendants were her sister Iva and his brother Warren. A year later, to the day, rolls were reversed when Iva and Warren married. Clifford and Maude first made their home north of Gregory. They then farmed near Dixon. They also farmed south of Dallas, south of Colome, south of Gregory, east of Lucas and west of Lucas. Clifford suffered from MS and the family moved to Burke in 1966. With Clifford being in and out of the Vet's Hospital, they moved to Colton, SD in 1975. Clifford passing away in 1980. Maude then moved to an apartment in Freeman in 1998. She did the work of a farm wife, cared for her invalid husband who passed away July 25, 1980, and raised her six children.
