Max Lee Fletcher was born in Glasco, Kansas, on March 11, 1920, to Dorothy Irene and Merton Mansfield Fletcher. Following a full and prosperous life that took him to Colorado, the Pacific Theater during World War II, California, and Arizona, he returned home to Glasco on 11 April for internment at the Glasco Cemetery. Max was the great-grandson of James and Josephine Fletcher and the grandson of Charles and Elizabeth Fletcher. James Fletcher arrived in Glasco from Scotland during the Homesteading era on the Great Plains and founded the Fletcher Farm northeast of Glasco. His soil-loving legacy has been inherited by every Fletcher man since, including Max whose thoughts and words always showed the love of this land, his farm, and the great country which he served with humble pride and distinction. Max loved, and was loved by, his entire family which literally spanned the globe. He is survived by his daughter, Mary, who resides in Castle Pines, Colorado, and son, Mike, who lives in Bangkok, Thailand. Max has six accomplished grandchildren living in Colorado, Florida and Thailand, and thirteen great-grandchildren who range in age from twenty-two to one year old. Max was a man who always had a kind word for everyone he met and always enjoyed good-hearted conversations and sharing a smile with a certain twinkle in his eye. As a result, he had great many admirers and the family is extremely grateful for the outpouring of love and kind words that have been warmly received. Although his beautiful wife, Maxine "Mackey" of Joplin, Missouri, preceded him in death, we are buoyed up by their example of loving, trusting parents, and eternally grateful for their teachings and instilling in their family the love of Jesus Christ. His service at the Glasco cemetery was a beautiful gathering, presided over by Rev. Tessa Zehring of the First United Methodist Church of Concordia. The US Army from Ft. Riley provided military honors and a stirring and highly-fitting rendition of Taps for this great veteran of life.
