Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Mrs Cannon the former Miss May Fleming Cox was born Sept 11 1866 near Conway. She was a daughter of the late William Wilson Cox and Mary Elizabeth Wilson Cox. She was educated in private schools and was married April 27 1887 to Benjamin Walker Cannon, turpentine and naval stores operator in this area until his death in 1925. Mrs Cannon was the oldest member of Duncan Memorial Methodist Church and upon the organization of the Women's Missionary Society of the Church in 1879 became a charter member of the society. She was president and also vice president several times. In recognition of her services the society elected her to life membership. She was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and served as vice president at one time. She is survived by two daughters Mrs HC Bruns and Mrs John H Hardy of Georgetown; two sisters Mrs Cornelia C Snipes and Miss Susan E Cox of Georgetown three grandchildren and a great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
