She was preceded in death by her Parents, her husband, George C, 2 brothers, Heinrich and Johnny Kray, 3 sisters, Margaret Brokens, Freida Ortgies and Alvina Dirks and a son-in-law, Herbert Husman. Matilda Mae Kray was born May 1, 1913 in Castle Grove Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry and Meta Steinblock, Kray. Matilda attended Castle Grove Township School #5. Matilda M Kray and George C Schoon were married May 22, 1929 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church. The couple farmed near Edinburg. In 1945 they started the George C. Schoon Implement Business in Monticello. They sold the business to their son Lavern in 1965. Matilda was a home maker but also managed the apartments the couple owned. George preceded her in death on March 21, 1970. Matilda was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, and the ELCW. She was baptized at the SS Peter and Paul Lutheran Church and confirmed her faith on April 1, 1928 at St. Matthews. Mathilda will be remembered for sharing her home baked cinnamon rolls, breads and pies with her friends and family. Her love of birds and flowers was ever present in her life. The family would like to thank the staff at Silver Crest and Above and Beyond Hospice for all the care, love and support during her illness.
