Description	:	The Sranton Journal, August 17, 1905: Miss Melissa Heaton was born in Hamilton County, Indiana, June 30, 1828, and died at the home of her son, L. C. Shields, in Willow township, Greene county, Iowa, Aug 11, 1905, aged 77 years, 1 month and 11 days. Nov. 14, 1856, she was married to Mr. James Shields in Marion county, Indiana. To this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters. Read More	The Sranton Journal, August 17, 1905: Miss Melissa Heaton was born in Hamilton County, Indiana, June 30, 1828, and died at the home of her son, L. C. Shields, in Willow township, Greene county, Iowa, Aug 11, 1905, aged 77 years, 1 month and 11 days. Nov. 14, 1856, she was married to Mr. James Shields in Marion county, Indiana. To this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters. In the month of September, 1861, Mr. Shields and family moved to Keithsburg, Illinois, where they lived until March 2, 1882, when they moved and settled in their home in the township above mentioned. In the beginning of their married life they became acquainted with and embraced the christian religion, afterwards making their home with the Methodist church and endeavored to live a true, devoted life. Sept. 1, 1908 while a camp meeting was being conducted by the Church of God in Eld. H. T. Whitehall's grove and urgent calls were being made, the deceased with her husband united with the Church of God, and have used their energy until death separated them. During her last sickness she was a great sufferer, but bore it with fortitude and made her own choice of who shall officiate at her funeral. Sister shields was a good wife and mother, an those who knew her best loved her most. She leaves to mourn her loss an aged husband and three children as follows, Mrs. Mary E. Whitehall, Calvin Shields, and Alvin Shields, all of whom lived near by and devoted their time in trying to make mother comfortable in her last days. Maggie B. Shields died Feb. 19, 1883. The funeral was conducted at the place of her death, Sunday, Aug. 13.1905, at 2:30 p.m., and the remains laid to rest at the Willow cemetery, Eld. L.J. Branch of Bangor, Mich, officiating
