Description	:	Vernon Adolph Yost was born October 10, 1918, to Adolph & Freda (Sterkel) Yost at the farmhouse of his grandparents, Conrad & Elizabeth Yost, east of Sutton.Yost died July 15 at Heritage Crossing in Geneva following a lengthy illness at the age of 88 years, 9 months, and 5 days.Vernon attended school through the ninth grade at District #1 and Sutton Public Schools. Yost was an active church member at Salem all of his life and put his Lord first.On June 6, 1943, he married Nelda June Statz at the farm home of her parents, John & Myrtle (Jones) Statz. To this union, two sons were born. Yost and his father-in-law, John Statz, farmed closely together for many years.The two sons, Richard and Robert took over their father's farming operation in the 1980s, but Yost remained involved in the operation by combining or driving the tractor when laying pipe.He served on the Soil and Water Conservation Board for 12 years. He was an active leader in 4-H for many years. In his retirement years, Vernon enjoyed his garden and flower beds.He was preceded in death by his parents, son Robert and infant brother Glen.Yost is survived by his wife June and son Richard, both of Edgar; daughters-in-law Jeanine Yost of Geneva and Donna Yost and husband James Buller of Lincoln; two sisters, Melva and husband Lloyd Stertz of Edgar and Rogene and husband Hugh Jones of Quincy, IL; brother Maurice and wife July Yost of Sutton; and brother-in-law Forrest and wife Ruth DeLunger of Bricylin, MN; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
