Mrs. Cornelssen worked at the Hercules Powder Plant in DeSoto from 1951 to 1957. She was a sales representative for Avon, Stanley Home Products and Sarah Coventry Jewelry. She also did practical nursing in Kansas and in Arizona for many years, and she worked in food service at the University of Kansas and a university in Salt Lake City. Read More	LAWRENCE -- Melva Workman Cornelssen, 94, Lawrence, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at a Lawrence retirement community. Mrs. Cornelssen worked at the Hercules Powder Plant in DeSoto from 1951 to 1957. She was a sales representative for Avon, Stanley Home Products and Sarah Coventry Jewelry. She also did practical nursing in Kansas and in Arizona for many years, and she worked in food service at the University of Kansas and a university in Salt Lake City. She was born Jan. 27, 1905, at Gravois Mills, Mo., the daughter of Hurley and Effie Kennedy Fletcher. She moved to Kansas in 1922. Mrs. Cornelssen was a member of Central Congregational Church in Topeka and Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence. She also was a 40-year member of the Ada Chapter No. 7 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She married Harry D. Workman on Nov. 21, 1923. He died May 8, 1957. She married Clarence Weber on June 25, 1960. He died March 10, 1964. She married Carl Cornelssen on March 29, 1969. He died Oct. 19, 1987. Survivors include four daughters, Dolores Trapp, Camdenton, Mo., Donna Farrier and Dixie Ravgiala, both of Lawrence, and Darlene Musick, Eudora; a son, Harry Donald Workman, Lawrence; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-great- grandchildren. Mrs. Cornelssen also was preceded in death by a daughter, Berneice Riley, in February 1989, a grandson and a great-grandson. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. Relatives and friends will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, or to the Hospice of Douglas County, and sent in care of the funeral home.
