He retired in 1988. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion Post 160 in Roanoke and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the United Brethren Church (of Roanoke is scratched out). He was bom Jan. 9, 1927 in Fort Wayne to Paul D. and Vesta Smith Parker. His marriage was Oct. 8,1948 in Fort Wayne to Mary Redding, who survives, as does his mother, a resident of Huntington. Also surviving are two sons: Michael L. Parker, North Manchester, and Mark A. Parker, Huntington; a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Marcy A.) Shalley, Huntington; and five grandchildren. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hart Funeral Home, where cervices will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Rick Smalling officiating. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.Preferred memorials are contributions to the Cancer Society of Hunt-ington County, or to the donor's choice. Services for Merle E. Parker were held at 10 a.m. today at Hart Funeral Home, with Rev. Rick Smalling officiating.Pallbearers were Joe Bailey, Wilbur Bowman, Kent Fites, Earl Layman, Hayden H.
